Topic
Note Links.
When to use
Note links come in very handy when you cross reference or share the Notes.
Instructions
There are two different types of links that you can grab for your Notes:
- Note Link—internal, used for cross referencing Notes in the same Evernote account
- Public Link—external, used when giving access to Notes to groups of people or people who might not have an Evernote account.
To grab your Note Link, either right-click the Note on the list in the middle pane or go to Note item on the main menu and select Copy Note Link from the drop down menu.
When you paste that link into another Note, you will notice that instead of a long link you get the title of the Note, which is also a shortcut to that Note.
To grab a Public Link do either of the following:
- Right-click the Note on the list in the middle pane > More Sharing > Copy Public Link
- From the main menu go Note > More Sharing > Copy Public Link
When someone clicks the Public Link, your Note gets opened in the web browser as a web page. So, anyone can see the contents of your Note, regardless of whether they have an Evernote account or not.
Login to download- 00:04 In this lesson we are going to talk about note links,
- 00:08 different types of links, and their uses.
- 00:13 There are two different types of links that you can grab for every Evernote note.
- 00:17 There is a note link and there is a public link.
- 00:21 Note link is the internal link.
- 00:24 It's used for cross referencing notes in the same Evernote account.
- 00:29 And public link is the external link, it's used when you want to give access
- 00:35 to a note to groups of people or somebody who might not have an Evernote account.
- 00:42 So let me show you how you could use each one of the types.
- 00:47 First, Note Link.
- 00:49 When you want to grab a Note Link, just select the note that you want to
- 00:54 grab that link for, right click and select Copy Note Link from the dropdown menu.
- 01:01 You can do the same if you go to Note on your main menu, Copy Note Link.
- 01:07 If you paste that link outside of your Evernote,
- 01:11 you will notice that it's a long and unappealing link.
- 01:14 However, if you paste it in another note, what you will have,
- 01:19 a quick shortcut to that note.
- 01:23 And the link itself will be the title of the note.
- 01:26 So, this allows you to cross reference your notes very easily.
- 01:31 Or in my case move from note to note seamlessly
- 01:36 if you want to keep your notes in a specific order.
- 01:40 So this, what I've done with this course, so every time I move to the next lesson,
- 01:46 all I need to do is click this link versus going and
- 01:50 looking for the right note in the middle pane.
- 01:54 When you want to grab a public link, you come to your note,
- 01:58 right click, and then go More Sharing.
- 02:01 From here, you will Copy your Public Link.
- 02:05 Again, an alternative way is to go to
- 02:08 Note > More Sharing > Copy Public Link from the main menu.
- 02:13 This is an external link, so whenever somebody clicks on it, regardless if they
- 02:18 have an Evernote account or not, they will be taken to their web browser.
- 02:24 And they will see something like this.
- 02:28 If that person has an Evernote account they will have an option to save that note
- 02:33 to Evernote.
- 02:34 But again, the contents of the notes will be accessible to just about anybody.
- 02:41 So note links, as I've mentioned, are very handy when you want
- 02:46 to cross reference your notes, or share your notes with others.
- 02:52 Play with this option because it will allow you to create
- 02:55 better internal structure for your notes.
- 02:57 But also easily share information without having to save it
- 03:02 externally to share it with somebody else.
