When to use

It’s very overwhelming to hunt for key information in multiple locations. Mastering different ways of getting information into Evernote will help you to turn Evernote into a single information hub.

Instructions

Managing just one main digital storage space saves so much time—almost everything is going to be in one easy-to-access place. You’ll be spending less time and energy locating information.

Determine what information you want to keep so that you can rest assured there are no cracks in your system.  You need a system you can completely trust. If any important information falls through the cracks or gets stored elsewhere, you won’t be able to enjoy this kind of support.

Right now, you might be storing information in your email inbox, the download folder on your computer, and in all sorts of other places on your computer. You’re probably also getting regular mail that gets stacked up in piles or scattered all over the place. Then, there’s all that information you find online as you research online publications. Don’t forget all the great ideas that are constantly springing up in your mind.

Ensure that all that information ends up in your Evernote by familiarizing yourself with different ways you can get information into Evernote:

  • Copy info to the clipboard and paste it into a note
  • Drag and drop single and multiple documents
  • Add links to Google Drive and Dropbox documents
  • Save PDFs into Evernote from the Print window (for Mac users)
  • Manually or automatically forward e-mails (Lesson 25)
  • Use the Web Clipper to clip articles, URLs, or entire web pages directly from your browser (Lesson 26)
  • Use Skitch to take screenshots and pictures (Lesson 27)

Remember that when you add something to Evernote without defining a specific target Notebook, your new note will be saved in the default Notebook.

  • 00:05 >> In this lesson, we are going to talk about how you can turn
  • 00:08 Evernote into a single information hub.
  • 00:11 Because my guess is that right now,
  • 00:13 you are storing information in a number of places.
  • 00:17 Your inbox, the download folder on your computer, other places from your computer.
  • 00:23 You might have several tabs open right now,
  • 00:26 to go back to these interesting articles that you saw.
  • 00:29 The problem with all of that, is that you spent time and
  • 00:34 energy locating all that information when you need it.
  • 00:38 I'm sure you've been in a situation where you looked for
  • 00:42 a document longer than you actually used it.
  • 00:45 So to prevent that from happening, what you can do is you can send into Evernote
  • 00:51 as much information as you can, so that it becomes your information hub.
  • 00:56 In this lesson, we are going to take a look at how you can
  • 01:01 copy information into a note, drag and drop files, and add links.
  • 01:06 And then in the upcoming lessons, we will take a closer look at how you
  • 01:11 can forward e-mails into Evernote, and use Web Clipper and Skitch.
  • 01:17 So let's take a look first at how you can copy information.
  • 01:22 So if I go back to my note,
  • 01:25 I can just copy and this will be my sample note.
  • 01:32 Paste.
  • 01:33 And you can see that information has been pasted immediately.
  • 01:40 What I can also do.
  • 01:42 is I can drag and drop files into Evernote.
  • 01:47 And these can be PDF files.
  • 01:49 Or these can be Word documents.
  • 01:53 Whatever I choose it to be.
  • 01:56 I can also copy links and
  • 02:00 put them together, copy and paste them to Evernote, too.
  • 02:05 And as you can see it's a live link,
  • 02:06 and I will be able to open this file directly from an Evernote note.
  • 02:12 If you are a Mac user, if you right-click on your PDF document,
  • 02:17 you will have an option to add that PDF directly to Evernote, as well.
  • 02:22 So as you can see, there is a number of different ways that you can add
  • 02:27 information in Evernote, and add information that is in different formats.
  • 02:34 So the only important thing will be to make sure that you create a structure
  • 02:40 that you follow, so that you can easily find what you've added to your Evernote.
  • 02:46 But other than that,
  • 02:47 Evernote can easily become your single information management hub.
  • 02:52 So you can very quickly find what you're looking for.
