1. Why would a project team want to conduct a pilot run for a new process or new product?
The pilot run is a qualification test to ensure there are no deficiencies in the new process or product.
A pilot run demonstrates that the new product can be flown to any point on the globe and still meet its performance requirements.
The pilot run demonstrates that the new product or process is stable and ready for operational deployment.
2. What does it mean to “transition the team” as part of transitioning the project results to the business operations?
Some or all of the project team are transferred into the roles that are responsible for the operational management of the project results.
The team members conduct pilot runs of the project result with the operational team.
The project team members are transferred from their existing project onto new projects.
3. What is the “Big Bang” approach to project transition to business?
The new product, process, or facility is introduced with a great deal of publicity.
All aspects of the new product, process or facility are introduced into the business simultaneously.
As the new product, process or facility is introduced into the business, anyone resisting the introduction is removed from their position.
