Closing Process Group
The Closing processes shut down a project or phase of a project; either because it has completed or because it has been aborted. There is one closing process.
When to use
When a project has completed all the deliverables for the project or phase, the project or phase should be closed. In some cases a project is terminated prematurely. When that occurs, this process should be used to close out all project activities.

Although there is only one process in this group, it applies across all project management knowledge areas. Normally by the time the work of this process is conducted the project deliverables are complete. Much of this effort is administratively focused. Archives are created or closed out and updates are made to organizational process assets so as to be prepared for the next project.

Closing Process Group Integration Mgmt Knowledge Area
This process is a very important process that is often given very little attention. Fully closing the project or phase can ensure satisfied stakeholders and prepare the organization for successful future projects. This process ensures that all deliverables are delivered and that the stakeholders and customers for those deliverables are satisfied. This process updates and closes the archives for the project so that future projects can leverage the experience of this project.
When this process is used to close a project or phase prematurely, it is vital that all project records and documents are captured and archived correctly. When this situation is occurring, there is often confusion and frustration on the part of team members and stakeholders that must be managed.
