  • 00:05 I'd like to finish up a little bit with more of the text box options.
  • 00:08 The symbol,
  • 00:09 the date and time and objects and then we'll go onto the building blocks.
  • 00:12 But the symbols are right here.
  • 00:14 And notice, it's grayed out, this little symbol is gray.
  • 00:18 It's not available because I have to be in a text box in order to have that.
  • 00:22 So I've already created a text box, I'll hit enter.
  • 00:24 And I'm going to come up here, see it already lit up.
  • 00:27 When I hit the drop down, this is where you get your copyright symbol or
  • 00:30 your trademark symbol or a little mouse symbol, whatever you want.
  • 00:34 Maybe you can hit the more symbols and you come in and get all kinds of symbols.
  • 00:38 Now every font style has its own set of symbols and design symbols.
  • 00:42 And then of course in the background we do have special characters.
  • 00:45 So this is where your regular ones are, your registered marks and trademarks and
  • 00:49 paragraph marks.
  • 00:50 I'll go ahead and choose that trademark, hit insert and there you go.
  • 00:54 I'll close this, you'll also find yen, and the pound sign, and the euro.
  • 00:58 You'll find all those symbols in there as well.
  • 01:00 All right, the next one is date and time.
  • 01:02 In order to enter the date and time,
  • 01:03 I don't necessarily have to be inside a text box.
  • 01:05 But in this case, I already was.
  • 01:07 Here's a little button right here, it says date and time and
  • 01:09 we can choose whatever date it is.
  • 01:11 And it's showing today's date and then I'll hit okay.
  • 01:15 So depending on when you watch this, this is going to seem like an old video but
  • 01:19 it's not, it's for Publisher 2019.
  • 01:21 Here you go, and the object, what is an object?
  • 01:24 Object is something you can insert.
  • 01:26 Let me click and drag that larger.
  • 01:28 An object is this little button right here, it says object.
  • 01:31 It allows you to insert from a Microsoft Excel chart or
  • 01:36 a worksheet or a PowerPoint or a Microsoft Word document or a Paintbrush picture.
  • 01:42 All kinds of things can be inserted into Publisher, so keep that in mind.
  • 01:45 I will hit cancel right there.
  • 01:47 All right, let's go ahead and move on to the building blocks.
  • 01:49 This is such a fun area.
  • 01:51 So the building blocks, yes,
  • 01:53 it is on the insert ribbon and there's an entire section called building blocks.
  • 01:57 It does have a dialog box operator, which mean you can open it up and
  • 02:00 show everything.
  • 02:02 My goodness.
  • 02:03 It's a huge, huge, isn't it?
  • 02:04 It's not letting me resize, how awkward.
  • 02:07 Okay, so I'm going to go ahead and close that and just stay on this.
  • 02:10 So we have building blocks, page parts, wonder what those are.
  • 02:14 Well these are little call-outs, these are awesome.
  • 02:16 They already have pictures, they're already designed.
  • 02:18 This is how you really dress up a newsletter.
  • 02:21 So if I click this particular one, I've got a picture right here,
  • 02:24 I can recolor any part of this, change my text,
  • 02:27 a little sand dune photo that I can replace as well.
  • 02:30 Now there's more, so I'm going to go back to my insert and page parts.
  • 02:35 How about calendars?
  • 02:36 Click on calendars, choose any calendar.
  • 02:39 There will come a time when your newsletter needs its own calendar.
  • 02:42 Don't try to create your own, just click one that's in here.
  • 02:45 So I'll go ahead and click this one.
  • 02:46 And lemme get rid of that picture in the background, there we go.
  • 02:50 I've got a calendar set up.
  • 02:51 Okay, and that's kind of nice because now I can put maybe special sale items on
  • 02:56 the calendar or do anything you'd like, okay, in the background of that calendar.
  • 03:00 All right, let's go keep going with this, I'm going to go to insert again.
  • 03:04 I've got borders and accents, look at this one.
  • 03:07 Now I can choose any of these borders, I know they look a little crazy.
  • 03:11 Let me try to get one that's not as crazy.
  • 03:13 Check out this border.
  • 03:14 Now, it's going to seem a little weird.
  • 03:16 You're going to think, wow, that's so tiny.
  • 03:18 So I just reduce my screen and I'm going to move this out to the very edge.
  • 03:22 I'm going to bring this all the way up to fill the entire thing.
  • 03:25 And when I let go now I have an entire border on the top and bottom of my paper.
  • 03:31 Well, didn't it just wreck everything?
  • 03:34 Yes, it did.
  • 03:34 So I've got to send this to the back.
  • 03:36 Well, that was in a previous lesson, how to send these two back.
  • 03:39 So I simply right click and now I can order this.
  • 03:43 And I can send to back, just like that.
  • 03:45 Usually the right click is the best way to get things done.
  • 03:49 There we go, now I have this border.
  • 03:50 Of course I'd have to move it and adjust it but
  • 03:52 actually I dont even like it at all.
  • 03:54 I'm going to get rid of that thing.
  • 03:55 So that's a beauty of playing with these things,
  • 03:58 is you can find one you like, move it up to the top, stretch it out.
  • 04:03 Then if you don't like it, just delete it and start over again.
  • 04:06 So this thing looks like it's stretching out but it just multiplied itself.
  • 04:08 So, all right, the last thing over there is the advertisements, fun, fun, fun.
  • 04:14 Okay, if you are having a sale, maybe you want to give 10% off on a certain
  • 04:18 day of the month or a free offer on this day, or any of these things.
  • 04:21 You can actually click any of these.
  • 04:23 Come in, just click that.
  • 04:25 And now remember that calendar we put in there earlier?
  • 04:27 I'm just going to move this down over one of the days, in the calendar.
  • 04:31 And on this particular day we are having a special free offer.
  • 04:35 So see, that's how you start building fun calendars and fun newsletters.
  • 04:40 Just let Microsoft Publisher do the work for you.
  • 04:43 You have all these great things to use, just get in there and find them.
  • 04:47 Spend the time to get better at this every time you use it.
