A smaller version of images that you can keep on a laptop hard drive.

2. When importing Photos into Lightroom, why place the photos in an external drive, and the catalogue on your laptop drive?
So that you automatically create a back of your images.
Because the catalogue has more resolution in the images
So that you can save space on the Laptop Drive while retaining editing capabilities.
3. What does the small black box at the top of this Catalogue image indicate?
That the Image has been deleted.
That the Smart Preview is turned on.
That the full size Image is off-line (not connected).
