  • 00:04 What we're gonna look at now is how to add a little bit more style,
  • 00:08 a little bit more class to our pivot table, make it look a little prettier.
  • 00:13 Now, every pivot table when it's created
  • 00:15 actually already has a style applied to it.
  • 00:18 And basically what that means, is a style is a prepackaged set of formatting.
  • 00:24 It's what controls that the fact that the header row is shaded and
  • 00:28 the way that things actually display inside the pivot table.
  • 00:31 Well, here's the kind of cool thing is if you click inside your pivot table
  • 00:35 somewhere and you go to the pivot table's Too Design tab,
  • 00:39 you'll notice over here that there's a whole bunch of pivot table styles.
  • 00:43 And if you click the little down arrow at the very bottom right-hand corner,
  • 00:46 you'll see that we have this massive gallery of all kinds of things.
  • 00:50 Now what's really cool about this gallery,
  • 00:52 is that if you're clicked inside your pivot table, which you have to be in
  • 00:55 order to pull up this tab, when you mouse over these you'll see that you actually
  • 01:00 get a live preview on your data of how that pivot table style might look.
  • 01:05 So that's kinda cool.
  • 01:06 You can really start quickly jumping in and
  • 01:08 taking a look around to decide what you actually wanna do.
  • 01:12 If there's a style that speaks to you more than some others,
  • 01:15 there's some real dark ones here and different things.
  • 01:18 And that's fine.
  • 01:19 I'm gonna leave it on the default style for
  • 01:21 right now because I wanna show you a couple of other little pieces here.
  • 01:25 On this same tab, we have the ability to control the way that certain
  • 01:30 elements affect our pivot table styles.
  • 01:33 Let's say, for example, that I wanted banded rows.
  • 01:36 If I click on this, you'll notice that
  • 01:39 every other row in my pivot table ends up with a little bit of shading.
  • 01:43 For massive pivot tables,
  • 01:44 this is really handy because now we can actually start having a visual indicator
  • 01:48 when we're trying to trace our lines across especially if it gets printed, so
  • 01:52 that we don't lose our place as we're looking across.
  • 01:55 We can also go with banded columns, and banded columns will shade them down.
  • 02:01 Now, you don't have to use them both, we can take banded rows off and
  • 02:05 just go with banded columns.
  • 02:07 We can turn off our column headers if we want, and so they're not shaded, or
  • 02:10 we could I think it looks better with them on.
  • 02:12 The other thing that I want you to notice as I'm changing these elements is watch
  • 02:16 the style gallery over here as we turn on banded rows.
  • 02:20 You can see that our live previews now
  • 02:22 start giving us a preview of how it might look with different styles.
  • 02:27 This one here doesn't look too different, or maybe it does.
  • 02:30 Let's try it.
  • 02:31 We'll click on this guy here, then we'll go and turn off the banded columns.
  • 02:35 Okay so there's lines that go down on this one.
  • 02:39 Banded rows puts lines across.
  • 02:41 Maybe that's not exactly what I want, I'll try a different style.
  • 02:44 Maybe I feel like going in one of the really dark ones.
  • 02:47 How about this guy here?
  • 02:49 And we can see what'll end up happening or
  • 02:51 what ends up changing as we start moving through these particular options.
  • 02:55 So, not quite so black or a little bit lighter.
  • 02:58 Maybe take the row headers off.
  • 03:00 Lots of different options and
  • 03:02 choices that we have to play around with using the built-in styles gallery.
