If the version number is too high when it circulates, it gives the information that the modeler didn’t really know what they were doing.
In larger models, the file version number may become unnecessarily large otherwise.
Each 0.01 is an iterative change (e.g. signifying so many hours since the last file version), whereas a change of integer (e.g. 1.03 to 2.01) would indicate a significant milestone or step change has been achieved.
