About this lesson

Learn how to identify and eliminate the main cause of bad body language.

  • 00:05 Rather than give you a 100 hour course that
  • 00:08 is the equivalent of a PhD on body language, I wanna save you time.
  • 00:13 And I wanna help you focus on what is truly most important.
  • 00:19 There's one big problem that affects most people in business situations that
  • 00:24 hurts them with their body language.
  • 00:26 If you can address that one issue, you solve almost all your problems.
  • 00:31 Now, not every problem, there are particulars that can stand out
  • 00:36 in a certain situation that might hurt you.
  • 00:39 But I wanna focus on this one issue.
  • 00:41 The issue is if you're nervous, if you're uncomfortable.
  • 00:46 Because when you are nervous, your body reacts.
  • 00:50 We become in some situations like little bunnies, we freeze, we don't move.
  • 00:56 And all the things we do in normal conversation with friends, family members,
  • 01:00 colleagues we're comfortable with, we stop doing, we freeze.
  • 01:05 It's a preservation method that our body has.
  • 01:09 We think oh if we freeze, no one will see us and
  • 01:12 no one can jump out of the bushes and attack us and eat us.
  • 01:17 And unfortunately it's the exact worst body language you could use
  • 01:22 to make a business prospect, colleague, customer feel comfortable with you.
  • 01:27 Because we as human beings are wired to deal with a tell,
  • 01:32 if not in our head in our gut when someone is nervous,
  • 01:35 uncomfortable and wants to get away from us or fearful of us.
  • 01:41 So that's why its so important to address this issue.
  • 01:45 When you are in new situations, when you're talking to new customers, or
  • 01:49 new prospects.
  • 01:50 Or you're giving a speech to a group that's larger than
  • 01:54 what your used to speaking to, the natural thing is to be nervous.
  • 01:59 So that's why some of the most useless advice you'll ever get
  • 02:04 is when people say well just be yourself.
  • 02:05 Oh, you're gonna give a speech to 2,000 people, just be yourself.
  • 02:10 Well, if you don't speak to 2,000 people regularly,
  • 02:14 yourself being natural is like this.
  • 02:17 It's being scared, it's actually very natural to be scared
  • 02:21 in situations where you're uncertain.
  • 02:26 You're home alone at night and there's a wind storm and you hear creaks
  • 02:30 in the house and you're never usually home alone, you might be like this.
  • 02:34 You might pull the covers over your head, you're being natural,
  • 02:38 you're being natural in that situation.
  • 02:41 So, a lot of what we're gonna focus on in this course is not on how you could just
  • 02:47 be natural, but how you can be natural, when you are comfortable.
  • 02:54 And then to figure out exactly what you're doing here and
  • 02:58 do it in business situations where you're not comfortable.
  • 03:03 If you're giving a presentation and it's critically important to your business and
  • 03:06 you're speaking to a billionaire whose decision could make or
  • 03:10 break your company, guess what?
  • 03:13 It's completely natural to be nervous, to be scared,
  • 03:17 to be tense, to have your body tense up, your voice crack.
  • 03:21 Um's and uh's come through.
  • 03:24 So being natural in that situation isn't going to help you.
  • 03:30 What's going to help is figuring out how
  • 03:33 do you come across your best when you are completely relaxed.
  • 03:38 And then doing those things when you are giving the presentation to that
  • 03:42 billionaire or that most important client prospect who could make or
  • 03:47 break your entire business.
  • 03:50 So that's the number one thing to focus on.
  • 03:53 Yeah, there are all sorts of other little subtleties and
  • 03:57 we could spend 10,000 hours in this course going through every single
  • 04:02 case study example, but I want you to master what's most important.
  • 04:07 What's most important is to not do the things that
  • 04:11 everybody does when they are nervous and uncomfortable.
  • 04:16 Because freezing your hands, freezing your body,
  • 04:20 freezing your neck, speaking in monotone, speaking too quickly,
  • 04:25 these are all things that are completely natural to do.
  • 04:28 But it's going to make your audience, your prospects, your customers,
  • 04:33 feel that you're uncomfortable.
  • 04:36 And if they feel you're uncomfortable, they're gonna be uncomfortable.
  • 04:39 And everyone is uncomfortable and people are uncomfortable, sales don't get made,
  • 04:45 recommendations don't get made, promotions are not granted.
  • 04:51 So that's why we gotta spend a lot of our time helping you figure out
  • 04:56 how to come across your very best.
  • 05:00 The way you come across when you're talking to your three best friends
  • 05:04 over a beer or your favorite beverage in a relaxed situation.
  • 05:09 So, throughout everything else we do, remember that's really the goal,
  • 05:15 helping you come across completely comfortable, confident, and relaxed.
  • 05:20 That solves almost all body language problems, and
  • 05:25 it actually gets you to the point where people are gonna feel good about you.
  • 05:29 Therefore they'll be much more open and receptive to your messages.
