Using Google Drawings to Make an Infographic

Many useful visual designs can be made in Google Drawings.

When to use

When you need to make some sort of visual design from scratch in Google Drawings.

Instructions

NOTE: These tips are only suggestions. They are useful guidelines, but they can all be broken.

Fonts

  • Don’t use more than one or two fonts in you design. Using too many fonts is often too confusing and disorganized.

Layout

  • Don’t add too many elements, and keep the different parts of your design clearly separated. Filling every available space makes it difficult to see anything clearly.

Color

  • Don’t use more than one or two colors. Using too many colors make your design difficult to look at. Using multiple shades of one color is usually fine.
  • Adding other colors in very small amounts can make your design look more interesting, but be careful not to add too much.

  • 00:05 A very simple, yet
  • 00:06 very powerful way to convey your message is by creating an infographic.
  • 00:12 And Google Drawings is an excellent tool for creating such a piece of content.
  • 00:18 I'm sure that you've come across a multitude
  • 00:21 of different infographic over the recent years.
  • 00:24 Infographic can be very easy to share via social media,
  • 00:29 via email, or just by posting them to your website.
  • 00:34 Often, they are used to explain or
  • 00:37 share important pieces of information by using a combination of images,
  • 00:41 bullet points, and perhaps some very interesting or amazing statistics.
  • 00:47 So let's take a look at how we can create a great infographic.
  • 00:52 Here in this simple example,
  • 00:54 you see I've combined some simple images which I've uploaded from my computer.
  • 00:59 I have some short pieces of text to
  • 01:02 highlight the three things that I'd like to proclaim or share in this infographic.
  • 01:07 I've got a title to explain what I will be sharing in this infographic.
  • 01:12 And I also highly recommend that you use a different colored background,
  • 01:16 something different than white.
  • 01:19 In this particular example, I've used something rather basic and
  • 01:22 that is a basic black.
  • 01:24 But I think it gives a nice contrast with the other images and
  • 01:29 the other text that I'm using on this particular page.
  • 01:33 So here are my three key tips for creating a great and memorable infographic.
  • 01:40 Number one, keep it very simple.
  • 01:43 You'll notice that I've created a lot of spacing between both the text and
  • 01:47 the images on this page.
  • 01:50 You want to make it very easy for
  • 01:52 the reader to grasp this information and to consume it rather quickly.
  • 01:57 So it's okay to have a lot of blank space or open space within your infographic.
  • 02:04 Number two, I recommend that you use no more than two different fonts.
  • 02:10 Here you will see I've chosen a different font,
  • 02:13 something to boost or punch up my title at the top, but
  • 02:18 I've used a different font for my actual bullet points below.
  • 02:22 And I've also been careful to use a white text on a dark background so
  • 02:27 that my bullet points or
  • 02:29 my key points stand out against the rest of the information on this infographic.
  • 02:36 I also recommend that you use no more than two or
  • 02:40 three different colors for your infographic.
  • 02:44 And that doesn't matter if you're using light and dark or
  • 02:47 a variety of rainbow colors, try to limit the number of colors that you use.
  • 02:53 This results in a high contrast and a very easy, digestible,
  • 02:59 infographic for those that you are wishing to share this information with.
  • 03:03 So have some fun, test out Google Drawings and create your own infographic today.
