Social Media Updates

We look at the importance of social media in marketing and how to get the most out of it.

When to use

Regularly post to social media to stay top of mind with your prospects and clients, share items of value, and broaden your reach. Make posts that your ideal client cares about that are professional and relevant.

Instructions

Social media marketing can help benefit your business

  • Stay top of mind with clients and keep them engaged
  • Expose people to your message
  • People can share your posts, broadening your reach

Post from your business page, not personal

  • Some of the things you share on your personal pages may not be relevant for your business

Make posts that your ideal client cares about that are professional and relevant

  • Current events – promotions, new shop opening
  • Polls – get people engaged with questions
  • Before posting, ask yourself “does my ideal client care about this?”
  • What is your goal of making the post – what action do you want people to take? e.g. post to share information with CTA to read more, vs post about a sale with CTA to buy

The key is CONSISTENCY!

  • How often to post? Have a regular schedule, e.g.
    • Once a day
    • 3x a week

Use batching method

  • Pre-write material or pre-record videos in a batch, and then release them one by one according to your schedule
  • Use scheduling tools like Buffer or CoSchedule to schedule your posts to social media

The top 3 social networks you should be using are Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Facebook

  • Many people primarily communicate and share using Facebook
  • Boost your post – pay for your post to be seen by more people
  • To boost a post:  Click Boost Post in the lower-right corner of a post you have created. Choose your audience and budget. Click Boost post.

Twitter

  • Ideal for short messages within the 140 character limit
  • Can share and link to videos, blog, website

LinkedIn

  • Target professionals on LinkedIn
  • Third most used social network by businesses, especially good for B2B marketing

  • 00:04 In this video, we're gonna go to step five, get online.
  • 00:10 There's lots of different ways to advertise and
  • 00:12 market your company, aren't there?
  • 00:14 I mean, you can get in print ads, right?
  • 00:16 There's billboards, there's television, there's radio, there's newspapers,
  • 00:20 anybody read newspaper anymore?
  • 00:22 There's a lot of different ways to do it.
  • 00:24 Banner ads, right?
  • 00:25 But online seems to be the best way today to get the best ROI,
  • 00:31 it's a low entry point to get started.
  • 00:34 And you can get super focus because you can pick those demographics and
  • 00:38 those personalities, where people are and those associations, etc.
  • 00:42 online, and you can do it for great ROI.
  • 00:45 It's not very expensive, okay?
  • 00:47 So I've decided to put this section on online marketing so
  • 00:52 that you guys can get the most out of this training.
  • 00:54 Okay, here we go.
  • 00:55 So, some of you are on social media.
  • 00:59 Some of you are not on social media.
  • 01:02 Some of you are probably on social media as you're watching this, okay?
  • 01:05 Stop that, put that down and focus on the video, okay?
  • 01:09 So social media updates.
  • 01:11 Those are great.
  • 01:12 Now, it could be personal or it could be your business page in social media, okay?
  • 01:17 So, if there's a choice, always go with the business, okay?
  • 01:21 And here's why
  • 01:22 Because people want to learn from you, those items of value.
  • 01:25 We're gonna talk about that in just a second.
  • 01:28 But they wanna see it in the context of your company.
  • 01:30 If they're going to connect with you, okay?
  • 01:33 Your personal may or
  • 01:34 not have things in there that would damage your brand or help your brand.
  • 01:39 I don't know, right?
  • 01:40 But you wanna try to keep things in a business
  • 01:43 sense when you're using it in marketing.
  • 01:45 Does that make sense?
  • 01:46 Okay, good.
  • 01:47 So, the key is consistency, okay?
  • 01:51 Your followers will not always see your posts.
  • 01:54 So, you need to make sure that you're always getting stuff out there
  • 01:57 consistently, okay?
  • 01:58 And what's great about social media is once somebody sees it and
  • 02:02 they really like what you put out
  • 02:04 If they're your tips, if they're your how to, or whatever that is for them,
  • 02:08 and they like it, they can now share it on their social media pages, okay?
  • 02:13 And we'll talk about the different social media, okay?
  • 02:16 So Facebook is a big one, right?
  • 02:19 A lot of people who are on social media are on Facebook, and it's important for
  • 02:23 you to be on Facebook because some people, that's how they like to communicate.
  • 02:27 That's gonna be the best way to reach them.
  • 02:29 We're gonna talk about Facebook ads in a little bit, but just in your post,
  • 02:34 make sure it's something that is important to your ideal client.
  • 02:37 The person that you're speaking to, okay?
  • 02:39 So you may have your past clients in there,
  • 02:41 you may have your prospects in there, you may have your current clients in there.
  • 02:46 Send something that they care about, an item of value.
  • 02:49 Now, if you want it to go to more people on that page,
  • 02:53 you can do something on Facebook called a boost.
  • 02:56 What's a boost?
  • 02:57 Well, you can pay a certain amount of money,
  • 03:00 and Facebook will make sure that it goes out to more of your followers, okay?
  • 03:05 That's the one thing that it does.
  • 03:06 The second thing it does is it shows Facebook that,
  • 03:09 hey, you're a marketing player in the online space, okay?
  • 03:13 And that's gonna help us when we get to Facebook ads, and
  • 03:15 we'll talk about that in a little bit as well.
  • 03:17 Because you want people to be exposed to your message, right?
  • 03:21 To that marketing message, whatever that's gonna be, okay?
  • 03:24 Another great thing to share in social media are current events, right?
  • 03:28 So those would be any promotions so you have going on.
  • 03:32 Any unique point of views that you have.
  • 03:35 Another thing that's great are polls.
  • 03:37 If there's something in your industry and there's a question,
  • 03:39 you wanna do a poll, that's great, right?
  • 03:42 So what is the key?
  • 03:43 Post things that are important to your ideal client and ask yourself,
  • 03:47 if you're about to do a post, before you hit post
  • 03:51 Ask yourself, does my ideal client care about this thing?
  • 03:55 I mean, really?
  • 03:57 Okay, I want you to start thinking that way.
  • 03:59 Okay, and I want you to start thinking about calls to action.
  • 04:02 What do you want them to do?
  • 04:04 What's your ultimate goal of making that post, okay?
  • 04:08 So it may or may not be the bold promise, or how you're doing it, but
  • 04:12 it's something to stay engaged and stay top of mind with your clients.
  • 04:16 So David, what social media do I need to be on?
  • 04:19 As of the shooting of this video, the most important are definitely Facebook, okay?
  • 04:24 Facebook, a lot of people like to communicate through Facebook.
  • 04:27 Twitter, Twitter is very quick.
  • 04:29 There are just these 140 characters, you put your message out there.
  • 04:32 You can link it back to your blog, back to your website, back to your social media
  • 04:38 videos, your online social platforms, your YouTube, whatever it is, okay?
  • 04:43 And you wanna have LinkedIn.
  • 04:44 LinkedIn, there's a lot of professionals that are on LinkedIn.
  • 04:47 Okay, so you wanna use that as well.
  • 04:49 How often do you wanna post?
  • 04:51 Well, once a day is a great way to do it, okay?
  • 04:54 That's a great way to know that hey, once a day,
  • 04:57 I'm gonna be out there talking to my people or it might be three times a week.
  • 05:01 And that way, you're sure that all those three days, you're out there.
  • 05:04 You wanna stay top of mind.
  • 05:06 And you can, if you're shooting items of value like in video or
  • 05:09 you're writing, or you're doing audio, you can do what we call, batching, okay?
  • 05:13 You can do what we call batching, you can take that whole week, those five days and
  • 05:18 you can pre-write them or pre-record them.
  • 05:20 So that way, when it comes to those days, all you're doing is uploading or
  • 05:23 posting them.
  • 05:25 David, I don't know how to do that.
  • 05:26 Well, there's tons of resources out there on Google, and
  • 05:29 of course you can hire people that can help you get the stuff done as well, okay?
  • 05:33 So remember, the key thing is consistency, key is consistency.
  • 05:37 Put down current events, speak to your ideal client, to what's important to them,
  • 05:41 once a day, three times a day, whatever it is.
  • 05:44 And whatever you decide is gonna work for you, do it consistently and batch, right?
  • 05:49 Get that whole week done on one day, and
  • 05:51 that way you're gonna save some time as well.
  • 05:54 All right, you got this, we'll see you in the next video.
