Excel offers a diverse set of ways you can view your spreadsheets. From hiding select cells to entire rows and columns, there are a number of shortcut options you can take advantage of to get the most optimal view to complete your work.

Display insert dialogue box Quickly add rows or columns to your spreadsheet wherever you like with this shortcut to open the Insert menu. Ctrl Shift + Control Shift I
Display delete dialogue box This shortcut opens the delete menu so you can remove cells above, below, or to either side of that which you already have selected. Ctrl - Control -
Insert rows Forget to leave enough space for your work? Add a row of cells wherever you may need them. On the Mac you can use both the Windows shortcut and the Mac shortcut. Ctrl Shift + Control Shift I
Insert columns Forget to leave enough space for your work? Add a column of cells wherever you may need them. Ctrl - Control Shift -
Deletes rows and shifts remaining rows up After selecting a row in the leftmost column available, use this shortcut to quickly cut it from your spreadsheet. The rest of your sheet will adjust accordingly to fill the empty space. Ctrl - Control -
Deletes columns and shifts remaining rows up After selecting a column in the upper-most row available, use this shortcut to quickly cut it from your spreadsheet. The rest of your sheet will adjust accordingly to fill the empty space. Ctrl - Control -
Delete cells With one or more cells selected, use this shortcut to remove them from your spreadsheet. don’t stress, this can be undone with Ctrl/Command + Z if necessary. Ctrl - Ctrl -
Delete cell contents With one or more cells selected, use this shortcut to remove the contents from within them. The cells themselves will not be deleted. don’t stress, this can be undone with Ctrl/Command + Z if necessary. Delete Fn Delete
Hide the row of the current selection If you want a row to become invisible while you work on other areas of your spreadsheet, simply select it and use this shortcut. Ctrl 0 Control 0
Hide the column of the current selection. If you want a column to become invisible while you work on other areas of your spreadsheet, simply select it and use this shortcut. Ctrl 9 Control 9
Unhide row Bring back to your screen a previously hidden row. Ctrl Shift 0 Control Shift 0
Unhide column Bring back to your screen a previously hidden column. Ctrl Shift 9 Control Shift 9
Group rows or columns Group selected rows or columns allowing you to collapse and expand the group as needed. Alt Shift Shift K
Ungroup rows or columns Ungroups selected rows or columns that are currently grouped Alt Shift Shift J
Toggle outline symbols Working with grouped cells or columns? These groupings will be visible to you either on the left part of your Excel sheet for rows, and the top part of your screen for columns.
