About this lesson

The real goal of mastering body language is to help you communicate effectively.

  • 00:05 Let's not lose sight of the primary goal.
  • 00:07 It is communication.
  • 00:09 You signed up for this course because you want good body language to help you
  • 00:13 communicate more effectively.
  • 00:16 But our goal isn't to have people walk out of a meeting or a speech and say, wow,
  • 00:21 that woman sure had great body language or that man sure had great body language.
  • 00:25 No, our goal is to actually communicate messages
  • 00:30 to advance business goals, whether it is to get new customers, get clients,
  • 00:35 get prospects in the pipeline, to get signed contracts, to get orders.
  • 00:41 In order to do that, we have to communicate very, very specific messages.
  • 00:46 Now, you heard me mention this in a previous lectured but
  • 00:50 I want to absolutely stress the importance of this.
  • 00:53 Your message is what is most important.
  • 00:58 Now, you have to have your body language in sync too,
  • 01:01 or nobody's gonna focus on your message.
  • 01:04 If I were talking to you right now and I didn't have a shirt on.
  • 01:08 It probably wouldn't matter what I'm saying,
  • 01:11 you'd be focused on why does this guy not have his shirt on?
  • 01:15 Why doesn't he put his shirt on?
  • 01:16 My body language, in that case,
  • 01:19 how I'm dressing my body would overwhelm my message.
  • 01:24 But the reason this is so important Is, as much as I want you to get completely
  • 01:29 confident and comfortable with your body language in every business situation,
  • 01:34 I also don't want you to fixate just on the body language,
  • 01:39 to the extent of everything else and not focus on your message.
  • 01:44 When you're doing your final preparation for
  • 01:46 any meeting, speech, meeting interview.
  • 01:49 Yes, video record yourself and look at the body language, but also listen
  • 01:55 to what you're saying and make sure that what you're saying is interesting.
  • 02:02 And memorable and useful to your audience.
  • 02:06 Because without that, nothing else really matters.
  • 02:11 So just as much time as you spend on the body language,
  • 02:14 make sure you have a compelling message that's memorable.
  • 02:18 This course isn't about your messages and public speaking specifically.
  • 02:23 It is about the body language but
  • 02:25 I wanna make sure you don't lose sight of the bigger picture.
  • 02:30 Body language is only important to the extent
  • 02:33 that it helps us communicate our message, that it enhances our message.
  • 02:38 So please, please, as we continue through this course, don't lose sight of
  • 02:42 the bigger picture, communicating with your clients, customers and prospects.
