Images in Your Ads

Learn what kind of images to use in your ads that attract consumers’ attention.

When to use

Whenever you use images in your marketing, you want something that attracts attention and is consistent with your brand, product or service.

Instructions

The type of image you choose depends on your brand, and how consistent it is with your product or service.

Use high contrast colors or black and white images.

  • High contrast colors grab the attention of viewers more than muted tones.

Use personified animals doing unordinary things.

  • You may have noticed photos and videos of animals are incredibly popular on the internet.
  • Cute – smiling kitten, juggling dog
  • Ferocious – fierce lion

Use children or people in general that are expressive in emotion.

  • People connect to images where people are expressing emotion. E.g. child or adult laughing, crying or screaming.

Images of yourself or spokesperson

  • If you own a surf shop – photo of you surfing. If you are a speaker – photo of you speaking.
  • In both of these examples, the images used are consistent and representative of the brand/company.

Use stock images as resources or hire your own photographer.

  • Use a photographer who specializes in commercial photography for photos of yourself
  • Stock photos are very popular. You can use them as-is or add your own text and adjustments. Popular sites include Getty, iStock, Fotolia, and Shutterstock.

  • 00:04 In this video we gonna continues with step four.
  • 00:07 Creating marketing content.
  • 00:10 In this video we gonna talk about images in your ads.
  • 00:14 Okay, so this is such a big piece.
  • 00:17 Now this is part of the creativity, part of the experimentation,
  • 00:21 because you never know what ad is gonna make a difference.
  • 00:24 It could be a little bit of text that makes a difference in that
  • 00:27 ad that makes it successful.
  • 00:28 It could be the image that makes it successful.
  • 00:31 It can be the placement of text.
  • 00:33 It can be placement of the image.
  • 00:35 So, we're gonna talk about how to experiment of all those different things
  • 00:38 in the upcoming videos.
  • 00:40 But what I want you to understand, is what kind of images do you want to use?
  • 00:44 The first thing is you wanna use images that have contrasting colors, or
  • 00:50 black and white, black and white is very contrasting, or
  • 00:54 colors that contrast something that again, grabs the attention.
  • 00:58 Cuz that's what marketing is all about is grabbing the attention of that consumer,
  • 01:02 grabbing that attention of that prospect, of that ideal client.
  • 01:08 Number two, another great thing to use in images are animals,
  • 01:13 specially like smiling animals, right, or really something out of the ordinary.
  • 01:18 Something that's cute, right?
  • 01:19 Like a cute little kitten, that's people, gets their attention.
  • 01:23 All right, we love watching dancing cats on YouTube.
  • 01:27 So give me something cute, or
  • 01:28 it could be something ferocious, like a lion or something.
  • 01:31 Like whoa, check that out, or a snake, or a crocodile, I mean, it could be anything.
  • 01:36 Just depends on your brand.
  • 01:39 What kind of branding are you trying to put forth and your product or
  • 01:42 your service, right?
  • 01:44 Because if you have a knitting class, you may or may not want to use a big lion.
  • 01:49 I don't know, it might be good for knitting.
  • 01:51 Who knows?
  • 01:52 Okay, but you might want to have something that's consistent with you're brand, and
  • 01:56 your product, and your service.
  • 01:58 Okay, the next image that tends to work that grasps people's
  • 02:02 attention are children, children.
  • 02:04 But they need to be doing something that catches your eye, so
  • 02:08 a child laughing, just having a great time, right?
  • 02:11 Or a child crying that's gonna get your attention.
  • 02:15 Or a child screaming.
  • 02:17 Something that shows emotion, and that's the same for anybody that you use.
  • 02:21 So if you use an adult photo.
  • 02:25 If it's a stock photo, we're gonna talk about that in just a moment.
  • 02:29 Something that catches your eye.
  • 02:30 Something that shows emotion.
  • 02:33 Now, the other image you can use is yourself, right?
  • 02:36 Or a spokesperson.
  • 02:38 Somebody that's consistent with your brand.
  • 02:40 So for example, if you have a surf shop, for example.
  • 02:44 Then, the photo to be of you surfing.
  • 02:47 It's something that's consistent with your brand.
  • 02:50 If you are a speaker,
  • 02:54 a photo of you speaking would be something that's consistent with your brand.
  • 02:59 So, something with emotion, right?
  • 03:01 That's gonna catch somebody's eye.
  • 03:02 So you want something that's giving a representation of your brand, of your
  • 03:08 product, of your service, but something that's going to catch their eye, as well.
  • 03:12 Okay, excellent.
  • 03:13 So what are some of the resources?
  • 03:15 Where do you get these pictures?
  • 03:16 Well, you can hire a professional photographer to take pictures of yourself.
  • 03:21 Especially somebody who does commercial photography.
  • 03:23 Somebody who specializes in doing that, they're going to get you
  • 03:27 something that's gonna grab the attention of your viewer., okay, good.
  • 03:32 Gettyimages is another great place.
  • 03:34 Istockphotos.com that's a great place to get some of these photos as well,
  • 03:40 and if you just Google stock photos,
  • 03:42 you're gonna have some other sides that come up as well and and you can pick and
  • 03:46 choose and grab the ones that you think will be best for you and your brand.
  • 03:50 So images are super important.
  • 03:52 Let's do a quick recap.
  • 03:54 You wanna use something that's got contrasting colors,
  • 03:56 maybe even that's black and white, or you might wanna use animals.
  • 04:00 Animals doing something out of the ordinary.
  • 04:03 A juggling dog is gonna get somebody's attention most likely.
  • 04:07 If that matches your brand and your product or
  • 04:09 service then great, go for it, something cute, or something ferocious.
  • 04:15 Children doing something that catches your eye, showing emotion, or a photo of you,
  • 04:20 or stock photos, with showing emotion.
  • 04:23 Something that's consistent with your brand, your product, or your service.
  • 04:26 Okay, great, you guys got this.
  • 04:28 We'll see you in the next video.
