Basic Animation Types

Basic Animation Types: Entrance, Emphasis, and Exit Animations.

When to use

When animating a presentation.

Instructions

  • To select more than one object: Hold down the Ctrl key, click each image to select and then animate all of these objects together.
  • Click an animation icon in the Animation gallery to apply that animation to one or more selected objects.
  • Clicking again on an animation icon in the Animation gallery will change the current animation on any selected object.
  • If an object is already animated, click Add Animation to add an animation.
  • Most animation types include Effect Options.
  • Timing options include On Click, With Previous and After Previous.
  • The duration of an animation can be changed, as can the timing delay.
  • Animation timeline indicators in the Animation Pane can be used as sliders to move the animation.
  • Click the start or finish of an animation entry in the timeline to change the start or finish time of that animation.
  • Right-click an entry in the animation timeline for other effect or timing options.
  • Options can be changed for multiple animations by selecting all of the appropriate animations in the timeline together. To do this:
    • Hold down the Ctrl key and use the pointer to select animation entries that are not side-by-side.
    • Use the pointer to select one animation entry, hold down the Shift key and select another entry: all animation entries between the first and last selection will be selected.

Also note:

Renaming an object in the Selection and Visibility pane will rename that object in the animation timeline. Do this to reduce confusion when working with a complex series of animation entries in the Animation Pane.

  • 00:04 In this video, we're going to look at animation types and
  • 00:08 how to add one or more of those animation type objects on a slide.
  • 00:12 It's one of a number of animation videos that cover good animation and various
  • 00:16 settings that include the animation pane and timelines and motion path.
  • 00:20 So let's begin by animating objects.
  • 00:23 If we click on the Animations tab, first of all, if the Animation pane is not
  • 00:28 available, you can click this Animation pane button in the Advanced Animation
  • 00:33 group, and notice that these button icons in the animation group are unavailable.
  • 00:38 But as soon as I click on an object, they do indeed become available and
  • 00:42 ready to apply to that object.
  • 00:44 If we click the little fly out button, we see that there are entrance animations.
  • 00:50 This is just like an actor walking onto the stage.
  • 00:53 There are emphasis animations,
  • 00:55 a bit like an actor getting attention by waving their arms around.
  • 01:00 Exit animations, which are the actor leaving the stage.
  • 01:03 As well as motion paths which are about movement from one location to another.
  • 01:08 And then we have the option here to select more
  • 01:11 effects from all of those animation types.
  • 01:14 With our entrance titled auto shape available,
  • 01:17 I'm going to add the fly in animation.
  • 01:21 And we get a preview of that animation.
  • 01:24 Now with the animation tab available,
  • 01:26 there is this preview button that you can select at any time.
  • 01:30 But if you wish you can turn off AutoPreview if it gets a little bit
  • 01:33 annoying after a while.
  • 01:35 So let's continue, we're going to add an Emphasis animation of an Object Color.
  • 01:42 Again, we get a preview of what that is,
  • 01:45 suddenly that appears on the Animation Pane, as well.
  • 01:48 And Exit animation of a Split.
  • 01:52 And a motion path, scroll down with the mouse, and select an arc.
  • 01:57 Then we can see that preview, as well.
  • 02:00 We will zoom down a little bit.
  • 02:02 Now it's very important that if you again click on one of these buttons,
  • 02:06 it doesn't add an animation but it replaces it.
  • 02:10 So you can see that that has been changed to a floating,
  • 02:14 it is then change to a wipe.
  • 02:17 And we will deal with that shortly.
  • 02:19 Notice these effect options.
  • 02:21 So for example, with this animation, we can see that it is an entrance of a wipe.
  • 02:27 We can wipe from the bottom, from the left, from the right.
  • 02:32 Or from the top, depending on how you desire.
  • 02:34 So there are always effect options, as well.
  • 02:37 Now if you want to animate an object all in one go,
  • 02:41 let's select all of those objects.
  • 02:45 Apply an entrance animation.
  • 02:47 We will scroll down, grow and turn.
  • 02:50 And there they are all added.
  • 02:53 As extras to the animation pane and they all occur together.
  • 02:58 Notice here On Click, With Previous.
  • 03:05 If we wish, we could select After Previous and
  • 03:09 the second animation after that one just there also bumps out because it cannot
  • 03:15 occur before that animation and we will look at that in photo videos.
  • 03:21 If we want to add multiple animations to one object on a slide,
  • 03:25 there's a little bit of a got-ya, so we have a fly-in, as soon as we select
  • 03:31 an emphasis animation, the previous animation actually disappears.
  • 03:35 Let's turn off the auto preview.
  • 03:37 So the trick with that is let's apply an entrance of a wheel and
  • 03:43 then the add animation is where you would then add a second animation.
  • 03:50 That appears after that so after previous play from here.
  • 03:57 Our first animation fires and then our second one.
  • 04:00 So remember, adding animations become available from the animation group
  • 04:05 when you have an object selected.
  • 04:07 Entrance animation here, there are four different types which are entrance,
  • 04:11 emphasis, exit, and motion paths.
  • 04:15 There are various effect options
  • 04:17 which change depending on the type of animation that you've entered.
  • 04:22 If you want to add additional animations,
  • 04:27 make sure that you go to the Add Animation button.
